Virginia M. Butterworth, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on June 11, 1942, in Danville, Virginia, Virginia was a cherished resident of Carrollton, Georgia, where she spent her later years surrounded by family and friends.
Virginia was preceded in death by her loving parents, Dillard and Beatrice McCoy, and her devoted spouse, Billy Auston Butterworth. She is survived by her children, Pamela Law, Angela (Greg) Horton, Toni Cantrell, Tina (Kevin) Haynes, and David (Mary) Baxter Jr., who will forever cherish her memory. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Denae Knott, Kevin Law, Keith Law, Todd Alloway, Blake Marshall, Tyler Gazaway, Noah Gazaway, Michael Mims, Karissa Sowell, Mitchell McCoy, Matt McCoy, Nathan McCoy, Angel Brown, Joey Baxter, and Haley Baxter, as well as 30 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Virginia also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends who will miss her dearly.
Virginia was a woman of many talents and interests. She found joy in cooking, solving crosswords, and playing bingo. Her love for food was well-known among her family and friends, who often gathered around her table to enjoy her delicious meals and warm hospitality.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 1:45 pm at the Roy Davis Funeral Home in Austell, Georgia. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Virginia will be laid to rest at the Georgia National Cemetery on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at 11:00 am.
The family has entrusted the arrangements to Roy Davis Funeral Home, and they extend their heartfelt gratitude to all who have offered support and condolences during this difficult time.
Honorary pallbearer will be Noah Gazaway. Pallbearers will include Todd Alloway, Blake Marshall, Ethan Sowell, Isaiah Sowell, Tyler Gazaway, and Nathan McCoy, who will carry Virginia's memory with them always.
Virginia M. Butterworth will be remembered for her kindness, her love for her family, and her unwavering spirit. She touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
