Muriel Deveda Burke

Our beloved mother

Muriel Burke was born in Washington DC while her father was serving in the arm forces during World War II & her mother worked for the United States Government Publishing Office & Archives.

After extended illness she quietly passed away the morning of June 19, 2025

Mom came into this world (per the doctor words) “she’s bright & shining like a new penny” from that moment on she became known as Penny Burke.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years Samuel Burke Jr, her parents George & Muriel Gross of Maryland, her two sisters Mary Ellen Gross, Elizabeth Scott, Son Kevin, nephews Tommy Weaver, Lee Weaver & Edward Gross.

She is survived by her three bothers Robert Gross, Micheal Gross & John Gross, Sister-in-law Barbra Warner, her three sons Samuel III, Scott, Daniel, Nephew Ronny Scott, and five Grandchildren, multiple cousins, nieces & their spouses.

As unique & amazing as any. With four sons, two daughters-in-law, five beautiful grandchildren, she bequeathed a legacy of her quirks and come back “Straight Laced Facts” reminding us of the love with which she has left us.

There will be a funeral service held for Penny on June 26th, 2025, at Calvary Baptist Church Flint Hill Road, Austell GA 30106. Please feel free to attend if you would like to pay your respects.
