Michael Emil Roach was born August 31, 1962 in Memphis, TN. His parents were educators and relocated to Gary, Indiana where he attended Ernie Pyle, Tolleston and West Side High from where he graduated in 1980.
He was a proud graduate of Indiana State University, where he also pledged Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity. His time there helped shape the values of discipline & brotherhood which guided his life and career.
A lifelong educator, Michael worked in the school systems in Gary, Indiana as well as the Cobb County, GA. He dedicated his career to teaching and coaching. As a basketball coach, he led teams to championship titles at several levels and was widely respected for his knowledge of the game, and his ability to inspire young people to reach their full potential.
Michael’s love for sports extended beyond coaching. He was a trusted and respected referee in football, basketball, baseball, and volleyball. For many years, he also trained basketball players, mentoring athletes emphasizing hard work, and accountability.
Michael was preceded in death by his father William Roach and daughter Brittany.
He is survived by his mother Marianne, brothers William and Christopher all of Atlanta GA, daughters Amari of Atlanta GA and Shermika Cooper of Florida. As well as nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He will be missed and fondly remembered. Michael passed away December 22, 2025, in Atlanta GA.
