Lula "Miserena" Sanders Phillips was born on January 24, 1917 in Florence, South Carolina to the union of the late Fred Sanders and Lula Howard Sanders. She was the only girl of seven siblings who have preceded her in death. She was educated in Florence and was blessed to work in many different fields. Seeking a better opportunity, she moved to Lumberton, South Carolina where she met and married the love of her life, William Henry Phillips on July 5, 1946. Together they helped their family members raise their children until Mr. Phillips departed this life on July 13, 1976. Her most recent employment was with Cobb General Hospital from which she retired in 1978. Left to cherish her memories are one daughter, Patricia Brown-Wiley (Leonard); 2 grandchildren, Latonia Brown (Armstead) Martin and Misty Brown; 2 great-grandchildren Lekia Brown, and Amaria Brown; nieces, Gladys Maldrow of Florence, SC and Margaret Moses of Newark, NJ; nephew, Larence Moses of Newark, NJ; great-nieces, Helen Maldrow and Natalie (Steven) Cobb and family of Florence, SC and Nina Maldrow of New York. Her life touched many people, loving and serving god being a faithful church mother at Greater Fellowship Temple of the Apostolic Faith until her illness. She still praised God throughout her journey until he called her home. Thank God for a life well-lived. Visitation will be Thursday, November 13 from 4pm to 8pm at the funeral home. Ms. Phillips will lie in state at the Tabernacle Church of God in Christ (6098 Causey Chapel Rd SW Austell, GA) from 1pm to 2pm on Friday, November 14, with funeral services beginning at 2pm with Pastor Kirkland officiating. Interment will follow at Causey Cemetery in Austell.
