Johnny Edwin Thomas
September 21, 1941 – May 13, 2026
Johnny Edwin Thomas, 84, passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2026. He was born on September 21, 1941, in Blue Ridge, Georgia, to the late Woodrow Thomas and Hazel Collis Thomas.
Johnny was a man who knew what he loved and lived accordingly. He spent his working years as a Machinist — a craftsman by trade who took pride in his work and the skill it required. Outside of the shop, he was most at home in the woods or on the water. He was a dedicated hunter who pursued deer, dove, and turkey with equal enthusiasm, and he enjoyed fishing when the occasion called for it. Some of his fondest memories were made at Lake Allatoona, where he and his family would gather to ski, camp, and cook together — the kind of simple, unhurried time that stays with a family for generations.
In addition to his parents, Johnny was preceded in death by his sisters, Willa Mae Thompson, of Temple, and Reba Culpepper, of Blue Ridge.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Gail Thomas, of Mableton; his children, Beth Puckett (Robert), of Cedartown, Johnny Thomas, Jr., of Powder Springs, and Michael Thomas, of Covington; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his niece, Sherry Hullett; and his nephews, Rickey Thompson and Barry Thompson.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses of the 3rd and 4th floors of Wellstar Cobb Hospital for the extraordinary care and compassion shown to Johnny during his time there.
Johnny Edwin Thomas was a quiet and steady man — one who found his richest moments in the fields, at the water’s edge, and surrounded by the people he loved. He will be deeply missed.
