It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Emily Ann Broom, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who left this world on Friday, April 17th, 2026, at the age of 86. Emily passed away peacefully at her home in Lithia Springs, Georgia, surrounded by the love of her cherished family.
Emily was born on Thursday, March 28th, 1940, in Atlanta, Georgia, to Thurman Hamilton McGouirk and Hilma McGouirk. She spent her childhood in Lithia Springs, a city she carried a deep affection for throughout her life.
For many years, Emily dedicated herself to her work as an accounting clerk with The Coca-Cola Company, where she was recognized for her diligent work ethic and warm personality.
In 61 wonderful years of marriage, Emily built a beautiful life with her late husband, James Ralph Broom. Together, they raised four loving children: James R. "Jimmy" Broom Jr. (Susan), Kenneth Hamilton Broom, Kathleen Hilma Broom, and Billy Broom (Eugenia). Emily is also survived by her dear sister, Johnnie Ruth Tackett (Ronnie), seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren, and a host of extended family, friends, and her wonderful caregivers, all of whom brought immense joy to her life. She is preceded in death by her grandson, Jacob Broom, whom she held dearly in her heart.
Emily's interests were as vibrant as her smile. She was a beloved member of the Camera Club of Lithia Springs and especially enjoyed traveling to Gatlinburg, Tennessee, Europe, and China. Known for her excellent taste and love of shopping, Emily was known as a "professional shopper." She also had a special knack for canning vegetables and always had candy on hand for her grandkids. Yet, her greatest passion was spending treasured time with her family.
Emily's legacy of warmth, humor, and love will live on in the hearts of her family and all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her fondness for life's simple joys and dedication to family will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
