Beatrice Hood

Beatrice Louise (Carmichael) Hood was born December 20, 1928, in Maryville, Missouri the daughter of James Roderick Carmichael and Della Elizabeth (Riley) Carmichael.Bea, as her friends called her, grew up in Nodaway County, graduating from Pickering High School with the class of 1946.On October 21st, 1945, she was united in marriage to Robert L. Hood in Troy Kansas.To this loving union, five children were born, Robert Jr., Sheila, Steve, Cindy and Mindy.Bea journeyed throughout the United States for thirty years during Bob's Coast Guard career and enjoyed a variety of employment opportunities during their travels. Ultimately, Bea and Bob retired in Jones, Oklahoma where she enjoyed playing with her grandchildren, staying active in her community of friends, and raising quarter horses.She was an avid member of the Daughters' of the American Revolution, Daughters' of Union Veterans, Officers' Wives Club, and American Quarter Horse Association. Bea was also active amateur radio operator and delighted in communicating with people the world over. The Oklahoma City Veteran's Affair Medical Center benefitted from her heartfelt volunteer for many years as did Integris Cancer Institute.Travelling was important to Bea and Bob as they vacationed all over the United States, England, France, and Scotland.Her favorite holidays were spent visiting her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Left to cherish the memories of a wonderful life wife, mother, grandmother, and friend is her loving husband of 68 years Robert Hood of Temple, GA; four children, Sheila Breen and husband Tom of Billings, Montana; Steve Hood and wife Tanna of Burlington, Vermont; Cindy Ray and husband Martin of Mountain Home, Idaho; Mindy Goodhead and husband David of Temple, GA; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild; along with many other family members and friends. Preceding Beatrice in death are her son Robert Hood, Jr.; parents, James (Rhode) and Della Carmichael; a brother, William (Bill) Carmichael; and three sisters, Helen Frueh, Mable Poppa, and Lola Mae Calfee. Bea will always be remembered for her love of family, exceptional baking and sewing skills, quick wit, and enthusiasm for life.Her interment will be 11am on Tuesday at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia.
