Alvin Thomas Hawkes, 95, of Austell, Georgia, passed away on August 17, 2026.
Alvin was born on January 1, 1931, in Cobb County, Georgia, to Alma and Alan Hawkes. He was married to his wife, Martha, for over 70 years, and took pride in his work as a craftsman for over 50 years, painting and maintaining homes around Atlanta. He lived in Cobb County until he moved to Washington, in Wilkes County, Georgia, to be near his son.
Alvin placed his faith in Jesus Christ and was a founding member of Ewing Road Baptist Church in Austell. His good-natured and joyful demeanor brought smiles to everyone with whom he interacted. He enjoyed good home cooking, gardening, music, and sitting on the back porch with his friends and family.
Alvin is survived by his daughter, Sandra Williams, of Lithia Springs, and his son, Mike Hawkes and wife, Patty, of Lincolnton, GA, as well as his sister, Sara Louise Dupree, of Douglasville. Alvin’s grandchildren include Kelly O’Brien and husband, Tim, of Slate Hill, NY; PJ Williams and wife, Adrienne, of Douglasville, GA; Al Hawkes and wife, Amber, of Lincolnton, GA, and Reed Hawkes of Lincolnton, GA. He was also blessed with six beautiful great-grandchildren: Aedan, Sean, Briggs, Charlie, Finley, and Jasper. Alvin also has many friends and relatives that will miss him dearly.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Martha, brothers Bobby, Tommy, and Harold, and son-in-law, Kenny Williams.
Visitation will be held at Roy Davis Funeral Home in Austell, GA, at 10:00am on Friday, August 21, 2026, followed by the service at 11:00am in the chapel. Pastors PJ Williams and Addison Belangia will be officiating. Interment will follow at Powder Springs Memorial Gardens with Briggs Williams, Al Hawkes, Reed Hawkes, Randy McDonald, and Marty McDonald serving as pallbearers. Jasper Hawkes will be Jasper Hawkes.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ephesus Baptist Church (Villa Rica) Building Fund or Greenwood Baptist Church (Lincolnton) Cemetery Fund.
