Robert Lee Hood

February 8, 1928 - November 22, 2018

Robert Lee Hood was born February 8, 1928, in Pickering, Missouri the son of Lester Lee and Lola Ann Hood. Bob, as his friends called him, grew up in Nodaway County, attending Pickering High School. On October 21st 1945, he was united in marriage to Beatrice Carmichael in Troy, Kansas before joining the Coast Guard on January 23, 1946. This loving union added five children, Robert Jr., Sheila, Steve, Cindy, and Mindy. His family travelled the United States extensively for over thirty years during Bob’s Coast Guard career. Ultimately, Bob and Bea retired in Jones, Oklahoma where he completed his BA and MA at Central State University. His continuing careers included teaching middle school and college students and head of Code Enforcement for the city of Oklahoma City. Upon retirement at the age of 78 he travelled extensively with Bea ultimately residing in Temple, Georgia near family. Left to cherish the memories of a witty, wise, and kind father, grandfather, and friend are his four children, Sheila Breen and husband Tom of Billings, Montana; Steve Hood and wife Tana of North Ferrisburgh,Vermont; Cindy Ray and husband Martin of Mountain Home, Idaho; Mindy Goodhead and husband David of Temple, Georgia; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren, and 1 great- great-grandchild; along with many other family members and friends. Preceding Robert in death are his wife Beatrice, son Robert Hood Jr., his parents, Lester Lee and Lola Ann Hood, two brothers, John and Donnis Hood, and sister Charlene Hood. Family and friends are ultimately richer for experiencing the humor, love, and wisdom of such a wonderful role model.
