Mrs. Mattie Hester of Powder Springs, Georgia was born July 13, 1926, in Turner County, Georgia. She went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 28, 2018. She is survived by her daughters Charlene Beach (Larry) and Lynette Barker (Todd) of Dallas, Georgia, stepdaughter Shirley Seymour (James, deceased) of Marietta, Georgia, grandchildren Travis and Jason Beach, Ryan and Sarah Barker, Joshua Barker, Jordan (Raven) Barker, Mike (Sherry) Seymour, Jenny Seymour, great-grandchild Chris Seymour (Amanda), great-great-grandchild Brendan, and many nieces and nephews. She is pre-deceased by her parents Asa and Mary Evans, husband Albert Hester, infant child Melba Hester, and twin sister Hattie Bright, with whom she shared not only a close bond but also her children and grandchildren who lovingly called her “Mama Hattie” and “Grannie Hattie.” Also pre-deceasing her are brothers Hubert, Rob, Claude, Ed, Will and Harvie and sisters Mae, Maude and two infants. Having joined Brownwood Baptist Church in Mableton, Georgia 58 years ago, Mrs. Hester was the oldest member and loved going to church. Mrs. Hester spent 49 years of her life dedicated to the business of broom manufacturing. Her career spanned from entrepreneurship in the industry to plant manager for Georgia Industries for the Blind, retiring after 23 years of faithful service with the State of Georgia. In her 92 years Mrs. Hester not only came into the lives of many people, she strived to make their lives better. She will be remembered for her servant’s heart and outgoing personality. She was happiest when surrounded by her countless friends and loved ones, and she will be greatly missed. The family will receive visitors from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday, July 30, 2018 at Roy Davis Funeral Home, 5935 Mulberry Street, Austell, Georgia. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at Brownwood Baptist Church, 6680 Mableton Parkway, Mableton, Georgia, where she will lie in state beginning at 10 o’clock. Interment will follow at Sunrise Memorial Gardens, Lithia Springs, Georgia.
